Mt. Zion Christian Academy
Mt. Zion Christian Academy (MZCA) proudly opened its doors in August 2012, serving students in grades K through 6 as a ministry of Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. The academy carries forward the legacy of the Yvonne C. Reed Christian Academy, which operated under the visionary leadership of Mrs. Yvonne Clayton Reed for 14 years. Upon her retirement, Mrs. Reed entrusted the school to the church, ensuring that her commitment to faith-based education and excellence would continue to thrive.
Under the dynamic leadership of Principal Kevin B. Parrott, MZCA has experienced remarkable growth and success. Since 2014, enrollment has increased by 95%, with an impressive 90% retention rate, reflecting the trust and confidence families place in our school.
At MZCA, we pride ourselves on providing a high-quality, faith-centered education. All of our teachers hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, and all teacher assistants have at least an Associate’s degree. Additionally, half of our faculty and staff have completed 30 hours of Orton-Gillingham training, equipping them to deliver effective multi-sensory reading instruction tailored to student needs.
We are also deeply committed to meeting the holistic needs of our students. With 100% of our students receiving breakfast and lunch assistance, we strive to ensure that every child is physically, emotionally, and academically prepared to succeed.
